Gin lovers rejoice at Whitechapel, a lively bar and restaurant showcasing the country’s largest gin collection alongside gin-centric cocktails and inspired pub fare pulling from Dutch-Indonesian and British-Punjabi cuisines in dishes like Bengali poutine, farmers cheese and naan, steak-oyster pie, bitterballen and mussels vindaloo. Drink offerings include gin flights, classic cocktails and punches, and new creations like the Audrey Rose (Hendrick’s Gin, liqueur de violettes, vermouth, rose water, bitters, acid phosphate). San Francisco veteran bar owners Martine Cate and Alex Smith designed the dramatic space to look like an East London Underground platform circa 1800's with vintage subway tiles, curved ceilings and red velvet banquettes. The main bar leads into a distillery alcove where gin botanicals are being distilled in clear pipes and to a back dining room and bar that looks like London's elegant "gin palaces" of yesteryear.
