Overview

James Beard award-winning chef Chris Shepherd defines Houston cuisine at his venerated hot spot, Underbelly. The large, bustling, modern-rustic dining room is lined with bookshelves packed with jars of house pickled and preserved foods. This meat-centric restaurant (complete with in-house butchery and meat curing rooms) in Montrose serves hearty platters of ever-changing dishes like Korean braised goat and dumplings, smoked brisket with cornbread puddin' or Cha Ca/Vietnamese-style snapper. Stay for their popular vinegar pie with salt brittle. A strong wine list is memorably showcased in hip, graphic art with cheeky tasting notes from chef Shepherd and beloved Houston rapper Bun B.
