What the Food Critics are Saying

“Charlie Trotter protégé and longtime Zealous owner Michael Taus forgoes fine dining for a globally inspired concept in the former Prasino space. The decidedly neighborhood-y spot offers everything from raw seafood, charcuterie, and cheese, to a seared foie gras club sandwich and veal cheek pot-au-feu, plus a swath of creative desserts like the Bohemian Rhapsody (lemon and goat cheese-filled kolachky, a fruit dumpling, and poppy seed ice cream).” – Thrillist

[On Must-Try Dishes] “Taus’ menu is inspired by his travels. After a recent trip to Barcelona, he came up with a dish of thinly sliced raw diver scallops, truffle vinaigrette, Granny Smith apple straws and a poached quail egg — a symphony of salinity, sourness and richness that looks and tastes wonderful. The lobster with oxtail ravioli (the chef’s take on surf n’ turf) presents a textural range of elements that works together beautifully.” – Chicago Sun Times Splash

“For entrees, the veal cheek “pot-au-feu” is a solid update on the classic French beef stew, with a tender cut of veal, artichokes, olives and other vegetables... The [fried chicken] dish includes four pieces of chicken, a corn muffin, smoked bacon green beans and chilled lemon honey butter that melts when applied to the crispy chicken skin. Made from a family recipe, the chicken’s coating has hints of cinnamon and the bright citrus in the butter helps balance the sweetness.” – Time Out

Comfortable and stylish, the space has the relaxed feel of a dinner party at (a really tasteful) friend’s home. The 50-seat lounge – replete with couches, armchairs, fireplaces and chandeliers – evokes a posh study. The dining room (110 seats) is stylishly adorned with suede banquettes and curtains, and also features rustic elements like salvaged barnwood wall dividers and blocky communal tables.
