What the Food Critics are Saying

“Chef Haidar Karoum’s kitchen is as strong and consistent as ever, turning out hanger steaks and squid smoky from the plancha, crisp ham croquetas silky with béchamel, and fabulous curry-spiced grilled chicken with cilantro rice. You can drink as well as you eat, thanks to cocktail master Adam Bernbach, who gets creative with Cava and sherry and mixes some of the area’s best gin-and-tonics. Don’t miss: Green-bean salad with goat cheese; pork-belly sandwich; Manchego burger (brunch only); Manchego cheesecake.” – Washingtonian

“The kitchen sends sensual tastes of España — jamon-wrapped figs, chilled gazpacho and shrimp punched up with garlic and lemon — to your massive table. Whenever I drop by Estadio, I make room for one of the petite sandwiches known as bocadillos, typically blood sausage with a smear of sharp Cabrales, or blocks of pork belly sharing a hard roll with shredded peppers. Not to be missed from the open kitchen in back: tortilla Española, a round cake of potato and egg set off with concentric rings of aioli and kicky red pepper strips; and crisp halibut, centered on romesco sauce that’s strewn with chickpeas and sunflower seeds.” – Washington Post

Ambience

Designed by Grizform Design, the décor is Old World Spanish throughout - from the terra cotta walls featuring bull fighting and flamenco murals to the 19th century Spanish tile and marble. Cured hams hang from the ceiling; ornate iron chandeliers illuminate the space. Wrought iron rosette panels divide the dining area, which hums with the buzz of happy diners seated at weighty (communal and smaller) timber-iron tables.

On the Side

“Estadio” is the Spanish word for “stadium” (hence the bull fighting mural on the wall).
