Overview

This wildly popular DTLA Arts District eatery serves up husband-and-wife chef team Ori Menashe and Genevieve Gergis’ highly acclaimed rustic, multi-regional Italian fare, including exquisite pizzas, pastas and small plates, paired with impeccable cocktails and a thoughtful, Old World-centric wine list. Housed in a converted warehouse, Bestia’s setting is rustic-industrial – a mix of exposed brick, bare rafters, chandeliers made of meat hooks and Edison bulbs casting muted light. The (typically-packed) L-shaped space features a bar, salumi bar and large open kitchen as well as two patios.

What the Food Critics are Saying

“Execution is everything. Ori Menashe, his wife, Genevieve Gergis, and restaurateur Bill Chait envisioned a warehouse east of downtown as a testa-serving, guanciale-curing, pasta-extruding temple of authenticity, and darned if they didn’t achieve it. Menashe lights up beef heart tartare with champagne vinegar and boosts grilledorata with an anchovy and lemon paste. Gergis’s panna cotta with persimmon wedges ends a meal—whether it’s lardo-draped pizza or brothy cassoeula—on an exquisitely soft note. Italian peasant food hasn’t been this romantic since the last late-night showing of Padre Padrone at the old New Beverly Cinema years ago.” – LA Magazine

“Bestia exemplifies the modern Italian restaurant in Los Angeles, deeply invested in curing its own meats, preparing just enough offal to satisfy the nose-to-tail crowd and not only making its pasta by hand but also serving it a little underdone so that the fusilli in lamb sauce almost hurts. Grass-fed beef heart tartare? Sea urchin crudo with lardo? Veal tartare with tonnato sauce? Ori Menashe is right there with you, even if you're just at Bestia for Genevieve Gergis' Carnaroli rice pudding with fruit. If you have heard of one bottle in five on the rustic-leaning list, you are probably studying for the master of wine exam.” – LA Times
